Kohima is the hilly capital city of Nagaland and one of the three Nagaland towns that enjoy Municipal Council status along with Mukokchung and Dimapur. It is also known as the land of Angami Naga tribe. The city is located south of Kohima district at an elevation of 1261 meters. Kohima enjoys a moderate weather all through the year, which is a welcome break from the rest of the country which experiences unbearably hot summers. Kohima is one of the few tourist destinations in India that can be still visited during the months of April and May. The best time to visit Kohima is from October to May.

November to February constitutes the best time for visiting Kohima. Weather is gorgeous. Skies remain clear. There is no rainfall. Monsoon rains leave behind a freshness that is infectious. Winters are cool, comfortable and extremely pleasant. Temperature ranges between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius. The chill feels good and overall it is an enjoyable experience visiting Kohima in winters. Some parts may experience intermittent snowfall but that is not a regular feature everywhere.
