Summer (March – June)

Summer in Gwalior can be excruciating, reaching temperatures of up to 47◦C. The climate from April to June is dominated by scorching heat and humidity levels are on the rise too. The temperatures soar and this is not an ideal time to be visiting the city. While the weather in Gwalior can be quite extreme during these months, the time can also prove to be a paradise for nature lovers. To beat the heat, you can consider a trip that keeps you out of the sun for the most part, while also letting you soak in all the wonders this city has to offer. If you happen to be in Gwalior during the summer, it is recommended to wear cotton clothes and increase your fluid intake to thrive in the burning heat.

Rains in Gwalior are restricted only to the monsoon months and arrive after a long battle with the scorching heat over summer. The monsoon season brings with it a much-needed respite from the hot weather. Starting in the month of July, the temperatures come down as the rain drenches the land. On an average, August happens to be the wettest month of the year. Gwalior receives approximately 970 mm of rainfall each year, out of which 310 mm is collected in August alone. The rains make the weather pleasing and enjoyable, but the humidity reaches its peak at the same time. The temperatures during monsoon range from 25 to 32◦C. The nights during these months are especially pleasant.
Winter (November – February)

Winter is arguably the best time to visit Gwalior. The cool and crisp winter weather makes these months ideal to explore the gorgeous city. More often than not, winter in Gwalior is marked with moderately cold and average temperatures ranging from 14 to 16◦C. Though it is not uncommon to hear of chilly temperatures of 3-4◦C during peak winter in Gwalior, the nights of January experience a freezing cold only occasionally. The mean minimum temperature remains a nice and cozy 18.5◦C through the season. The four day Tansen Music Festival organized in November-December might also be of interest to you if you enjoy Indian classical music performances.
