Uttarkashi is a serene hill-station located in Uttarakhand, situated 1518 meters above sea-level. It is also called Devbhoomi or the “Land of Gods” as it is filled with sacred temples that hold great significance in the Hindu religion. The natural landscape is full of hiking trails, all amidst the scenic backdrop of the Bhagirathi River that passes through the town and the towering Himalayan Mountain Ranges. Tourism here in Uttarkashi is booming throughout the year, but more so from the months of March to November.

 

Visitors flock here in the winter to enjoy winter adventure sports like skiing and sledding. The summer is ideal for outdoor activities like camps and treks. By Air:

Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (160 km) away is the closest domestic airport. There are regular flights to Delhi and other chief Indian cities from this airport.

 

By Road:

This is the most favoured way to reach Uttarkashi. The town has an efficient roadway network to enable tourists to travel back and forth.

 

By Rail:

The nearest station is in Rishikesh, 143 km away. The station can be found on NH58 and is linked to all the key towns in and around Uttarakhand.

Summer (March - June):

The summer season in Uttarkashi begins by March and ends by the end of June, with temperature hovering between 15 and 30°C. This is the perfect time for outdoor treks and camping.

 

Monsoon (July - September):

The monsoon converts Uttarkashi into a mystic land as the surrounding vegetation becomes lush and green. However, there is a danger of landslides and flooding.

 

Winter (October - March):

Temperatures tend to drop to sub-zero levels by late November. But the snowfall turns this town into a skiing and sledding paradise. This is an extremely popular winter tourist spot.

Trekking:

A famous haven for explorers, Uttarkashi offers some of the best and most scenic trails in North India, especially during the summer and winter months.

 

Mount Thelu Trek:

Snuggled in the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas, Mount Thelu is a unique natural landmark, ideal for trekking and mountaineering.


Landscape Photography:

Natural wonders like Dayara Bugyal and the Bhagirathi River are just some of the perfect landscapes for budding and experienced photographers to pick from. Additionally the dams, temples and surrounding Himalayas all make for incredible photography opportunities.

Uttarkashi is a notable heaven of apple plantations and the Harsil-Dharali is a perfect example of the rich natural beauty on offer here. A day trip to the apple and walnut plantations is a must-do activity for families and young couples especially.
