It is said that the Mughal Emperor, Ghazi-ud-din was the one who named the city of Ghaziabad and also ruled over this area. During his rule, four gates were constructed in order to mark the boundary of Ghaziabad; Dasna Gate, Sihani Gate, Delhi Gate and the Shahi Gate. Gradually as time passed, the Shahi Gate came to be known as Bazar Gate and eventually was named Jawahar Gate, while the first three gates remain intact along with their respective names. This is one of the main gateways into the city and hence an important one. There is a market right in front of the gate where people sell vegetables and fruits and is known as the Ghanta Ghar Market.
