Thessaloniki winters are not too harsh and can be quite enjoyable. Rain can be expected 8-10 days in a month during this time and occasionally it also snows. It can get quite hazy and foggy through the day which adds to the serenity of the place. The average temperature during winter is 6°C and the sun sets at around 5:30 pm, giving you ample time to do your share of sightseeing. The downside is that most of the restaurants do not have outdoor seating, because the evenings are quite chilly so you do miss out on the nightlife liveliness.

The Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art usually takes place in January every year.
