Sanchi, in Madhya Pradesh, is famous for its Great Stupa which is the oldest structure in stone in India. It was built during the period of the Maurya Empire around the 3rd Century BC under the commission of Emperor Ashok. At a height of 54’ the stupa, a hemispherical structure, has a central chamber in which lie the relics of Lord Buddha. The weather in Sanchi is tropical in nature. It is hot in summer, humid and wet in the monsoon and cold in winter. The best time to visit Sanchi is the winter.
Summer (April-June)

Summer in Sanchi typically is humid and hot. It lasts for almost four months. During this period the maximum temperature rises to 45°C while the minimum may go down to about 25°C. It is best to avoid a visit to Sanchi during this period. However, if you have to visit then do wear only cotton clothes.
Monsoon (July-September)

Sanchi does not have too many heavy showers. Normally, during monsoon the showers are only a mild drizzle, sometimes with increased intensity. But, during this period you will find Sanchi coming alive. The place turns green and is beautiful. Unfortunately, there is a good possibility of landslides during this period. A visit to Sanchi during the monsoon is not advised.
Winter (October-March)

Sanchi weather is glorious during the winter months when the temperature drops to about 10°C during nights. During the daytime the temperature is most comfortable and pleasant when the maximum temperature hovers around 22°C. There are some festivals in Sanchi during this time of the year. Do try to visit Sanchi in winter for a good time.
