Madhubani is synonymous with art and culture for it is here that the art of Madhubani painting was created some 2500 years ago. It is therefore an ancient city that goes back to the time of Ramayana when King Janaka is said to have asked his artist to create a painting of his daughter’s wedding to Lord Rama. Mithila art as the form of painting is called is practised in Bihar and Nepal. Madhubani, the town, is almost at sea level and the weather in Madhubani is generally mild and also temperate and warm. The best time to visit Madhubani is during winter, which is between December and March.

Summers in Madhubani are generally extremely hot. The summer season commences in March and relentlessly marches on till June when the city gets its first showers. While the month of May is normally the hottest among all the months with temperatures registering 50°C, all throughout summer one is exposed to scorching heat, dust and a very dry environment. Loo is not uncommon and life becomes unbearable because of dust storms that are a part of this season. It is not advisable to visit Madhubani during this season.
Monsoon (July-September)

The rainy season follows the scorching summer season and brings with it relief for one and all. The monsoon in Madhubani is moderate and the season lasts between June and September. However, towards the latter period of the season, once the parched earth has been soaked adequately, the weather becomes cool and pleasant. It may not be bad for tourism during this phase. The threat of flooding exists and for this reason it is not advisable for tourists to visit the city during this season.
Winter (October-March)

Madhubani does experience the phenomenon of retreating monsoon that occurs during the months of September and November. Winter follows thereafter and Madhubani enjoys a fine winter with temperatures ranging between 8 and 10°C. The weather changes from pleasant to cold during the course of the winter season. Tourism is at its peak in this time of the year and visitors enjoy moving around throughout the day. Nights tend to be chilly at times though.
