As the weather is generally quite chilly year round, the best months to visit Kedarnath are from May to June, with an average temperature of 15 to 30° C. During this time of the year majority of the visitors are on their pilgrimage and other visitors tend to check out the temples and other trekking routes in and around Kedarnath. The rainy season begins in July and wraps up around mid-September. From here on till the winter season begins, is the peak season to visit Kedarnath. However, the monsoons can bring excessive rainfall on occasion, making it less than ideal to visit, with an average climate of 12°C. It is known to be flood-prone, bearing in mind the 2013 floods, resulting in the temple being shut off to be public during this season.

Between November and March, Kedarnath is practically closed to the tourists. The temperatures drop to sub-zero levels and are accompanied by heavy rains, resulting in most people avoiding travel here. The area literally turns into a white ghost town as all the main attractions in the area are shut off to tourists and visitors. Do not visit at this time as the roads are bad, amenities unavailable, and nothing to do.
