Saputara is a picturesque hill station in Saputara township that is located in the Dang district of Gujarat. The hill station which is a little known touristy weekend destination lies in the Sahyadri mountain ranges on the Western parts of India. Sitting at an altitude of about 875 m above msl on the Dang Plateau, the little town is an ideal gateway for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts who would love to spend a short holiday amidst nature.

 

Saputara does not have a railway station or an airport and the only access to this little hill station is by road. There are railway stations a short drive away and the town is easily accessed by private vehicles, cabs and private or state run buses from both the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Saputara is about 80 km from Nashik, about 172 km from Surat and 280 km from Mumbai. The most ideal way to reach Saputara would be by road.

The nearest domestic airport is the Ozar Airport at Nashik that flies domestic flights to cities like Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Bhopal and Hyderabad. You could hire a cab from the airport to Saputara or board a bus that ranges from regular to deluxe and air conditioned buses. You might also book a flight to Surat that caters to domestic flights to and from Bhubaneswar, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Goa, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bhopal etc. Surat International Airport that caters to flights to Sharjah is about 172 km from Saputara.

 

The nearest International Airport is the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at Mumbai, that flies services to a number of cities like Singapore, Dubai, Kuala Lampur, Bangkok, Zurich and Hong Kong as well as domestic flights to most Indian cities. You could board a bus or a cab from the Mumbai airport to Saputara.

The rail station nearest to Saputara is the Railway Junction at Bilimora, that’s about 50 km from the hill station. The station has a good number of daily and weekly trains like the Gujarat Queen (Valsad – Ahmedabad), Saurashtra Express (Mumbai- Porbandar), Firozpur Cantonment Janta Express via New Delhi, chugging in from cities like Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, New Delhi and Ahmedabad. There are the options of unreserved trains, MEMU and passenger trains as well, that travel between Virar, Waghai, Ahmedabad and Surat enroute Bilimora Junction.

 

There are Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) buses that run from Bilimora Junction to Saputara that can be boarded for a journey to the hill town from the railway station. You could also hire a pre booked cab from Bilimora to get dropped off at Saputara.

Tourists could travel from Mumbai to Saputara via Nashik by private car or a hired taxi. One of the best options to travel to Saputara is by road. Saputara is a small hill station with a hilly terrain but you could travel around the hill station by car for a local sightseeing trip, which is one of the trendiest holiday trips for tourists who drive in from cities like Mumbai or Nashik on a weekend getaway.

 

You also have the option of travelling to Nashik by train and boarding a MSRTC bus from Nashik’s Central Bus Stand to Saputara. It takes about 2 hours by road from Nashik to the hill station. State owned and private deluxe, air conditioned and regular buses run to Saputara from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Shirdi, Pune, Surat, Baroda, Vasta and most cities of Gujarat as well.

Saputara is a small hill station with ample scope for hiking along on foot, since trekking is one of the prime activities around the hill station. If you are particular, you might find auto rickshaws or cabs that can be used for a local sightseeing trip. There are local car rentals where you could book a cab for a full or half a day sightseeing trip.

 

There are jeeps that are run on a share basis to some of the most popular touristy spots and there are local buses as well that are usually quite limited in number but are more economical and you could always hop into one for a relaxed tour round town. Two wheelers can be hired from either Surat or Nashik for a bike ride to Saputara, which is one of the hottest holiday sprees for a cool weekend trip.
