The main airport currently serving the city of Kushinagar is the Mahayogi Gorakhnath Airport, located at a distance of 46.9 km from the center of the city. This is one of the most convenient ways to reach the religious city of Kushinagar. Although the airport has flights that connect Kushinagar to other major cities in India, these flights aren’t very frequent; if you are not able to find a flight of your choice and timing to Gorakhpaur, you can always take a flight to Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow which is 340.4 km from Kushinagar. This airport in Lucknow has more number of flights that fly within the country as well as internationally. Once you reach either of the airports, you can take a bus, taxi or a local train to reach your destination in the city.

Kushinagar is well connected to other cities in the state by roadways. If you want to drive up there, you can take National Highway 28 and then exit to Kushinagar. There are other highways as well that connect Kushinagar to cities like Jhansi, Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur. You can also think of travelling by bus; you can find state run buses within Uttar Pradesh plying from different cities as well as luxury buses that ply from adjacent cities to Kushinagar. Kushinagar does not have a railway station of its own; the nearest railhead serving the city is Gorakhpur Junction Railway Station. This station is 54.5 km from the center of Kushinagar city and takes about an hour and a half to get there by public transportation. Gorakhpur being the headquarters of North eastern railways is well connected to important cities in Uttar Pradesh as well as other important cities in the country like Mumbai, Kolkata, Cochin and Delhi. This is a good way to travel as it is comfortable, inexpensive and not cramped up. Once you reach the railway station, you can take a bus, rickshaw or a cab to reach your hotel in Kushinagar.

Since Kushinagar is a popular tourist spot, it is easy to get around the city. Various means of transportation like auto rickshaws, cabs, busses and cycle rickshaws are available for tourists to travel in. You can also rent out private vehicles and drive them around. Buses are the cheapest way to travel; they are also very comfortable, always on time and reliable. Cabs may be a little costlier, but if you are traveling with older people, this is the best option.
