Udhampur enjoys sub tropical climate. Summer temperatures do not cross the 40°C mark and remain quite pleasant. Due to the extreme temperatures in winter most people like to visit Udhampur during summer to soak in the warmth and explore the lovely places.

Udhampur experiences heavy showers during monsoon by virtue of its location. In July it receives rainfall of an average 283 mm. The annual rainfall which Udhampur receives mainly during monsoon and winter is due to Western Disturbances. Ramnagar town receives the heaviest rainfall in the year. It is recommended not to visit Udhampur during these months as movement becomes restricted and there might be occasional landslides as well.

While October is quite pleasant from November onwards, winter starts setting in. Winters in Udhampur are chilly. Mercury dips to as low as 2 degrees and sometimes falls below zero. While there may be some snowfall in the upper areas, Udhampur in general does rarely receive snowfall. However with climate patterns undergoing constant changes, snow has been reported in recent years. February and March are known for hailstorms. While most tourists prefer to visit Udhampur in summer, some come visiting in winter to enjoy the cold climate.
