One of the best things to do in Hue is to explore the ancient tombs of the Olden Emperors and learn more about the country’s history. This place is a dream for architecture enthusiasts and historians alike as it gives fascinating insights into a world seemingly forgotten. Majority of the tombs date back to as early as the 19th and 20th centuries, and are intricately inscribed with stories of Buddhist folklore. Visit the Tu Hieu Pagoda

This is one of the most famous pagodas in the country, dating back to as early as 1843. Historically, it served as the home for eunuchs back in the era of the Ancient Citadel in Hue and is now housing approximately 70 monks who practice and live in its quarters. There are two adjacent soaring temples here that are fascinating to explore. Visitors also travel here to observe the monks in prayer and going about their daily rituals.

Visit the Imperial Citadel

The Imperial Citadel was historically the political stronghold of the emperors and counsellors as well as the capital of Vietnam at one point. Today, visitors can study and appreciate the defences, engraved gateways and imperial rotundas. Additionally, there are a handful of charming galleries on the estates. 7 km outside of Hue is the Huyen Tan Princess Temple, situated at the foot of Ngu Phong Mountain. This a great way to spend the day for history and design lovers. The surrounding atmosphere is stunning and is filled with a diverse variety of flowers. Additionally, visitors can trek up to the top of the mountain and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
