A town known for its natural beauty, historical monuments and ruins and for large number of schools, Dharmanagar is one of the leading Municipal Council in North Tripura District. A few hours drive from Agartala takes tourists to Dharmanagar which is strategically located and has a well developed transport system. A small town with few tourist attractions does not offer too much in terms of activities for tourists to indulge in. Let us take a quick look at some of the things to do while in the town.

Kali Dighi is a beautiful lake in Dharmanagar and the city is located around the lake. It has a number of fountains which light up as sun goes down. Taking a leisurely stroll in the evenings is a good way to beat the blues. The calm and quite ambiance around the lake makes the walk an enjoyable experience. Tourists can try and book hotels overlooking the lake to make the most of their stay.

Unakoti is an ancient Shaivite place of worship and has enormous rock reliefs and bas reliefs flooding the landscape. Unakoti is located few kilometres from Dharmanagar and is a major tourist attraction in this part of the state. The region dates back to the 7th and 9th centuries and one comes across stone images and rock-carved figures. There is a huge Shiva head and figure of Ganesha that deserve a special mention. This shiva head is known as Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava and is about 30 feet high. Ashokastami Mela is held here every year in the month of April.

Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary is a small sanctuary located 12 km from Dharmanagar. Wildlife enthusiasts and bird lovers can make a short stop here to try and sight animals and birds. There are a number of species of birds, reptiles and primates that are found here. If they are lucky, bird watchers can chance upon a number of them on a given good day. The sanctuary is spread across a 0.86 square kilometre and is a good way to spend time while in the town.

After a quick tour of Dharmanagar, tourists can drive down to Udaipur for a visit to the Tripura Sundari Temple or Tripureshwari Temple which happens to be one of the Shakti Peethas in the country and the state is named after Tripura Sundari Devi. The temple is visited by a large number of pilgrims every year. In Udaipur tourists can also take a tour of the lakes as there are a number of them in the town. A quick half day tour of Udaipur is worth the effort and time.

If you have taken a flight to Tripura it is possible that you have already visited Agartala before. If you have taken some other routes to reach the state and not yet had an opportunity to visit Agartala you must a plan a trip from Dharmanagar. It is a few hours drive and there are large number of buses running between the two places. Agartala is the capital city with a large number of tourist attractions that include the Ujjayanta Palace, Government Museum, Jagannath Temple etc.

As an important Municipal Council in North Tripura District there are a number of good eateries in the town. The range of choice may not be as much as Agartala but it is sufficient for tourists who are presented with a fairly good choice of cuisines. There is the local Tripura cuisine, delicious Bengali dishes and Chinese food that is very popular among all. Tourists visiting Dharmanagar will not be disappointed by variety of food that is served here.
