Lachung is a hilly village located in the northern mountains of Sikkim. It is 113 km away from Gangtok and boasts of such scenic beauty that takes your breath away. Known for its Rhododendron-filled landscapes coupled with zen-like tranquility, Lachung has pleasant weather almost all year round. Even so, the best time to visit Lachung is between March to July, when the the village is dry and relatively warm. What also makes this time great is the number of festivals organised by the state tourism department. 

Fog covered outline of mountains, misty grey roads, snowfall, and a peaceful silence only the still cold air can bring - Lachung is embraced in cool temperatures (10°C - -5°C) from October to February. Snowfall transforms the village into  a white wonderland and trees turn frosty from green. This time of the year offers some of the best sights and outdoor activities without the fear of dehydration or tanning. The sun is merciful and winds cold.

Heavy rains reign over Lachung, brought on by the South-West Monsoon. This rainfall makes roads slippery, prone to landslides and even blocks some passages. Hence it is not advisable to take a trip to Lachung during monsoon months, i.e. from July to September. It spoils most outdoor activities even though the mountain village drenches in beautiful sights. 

The temperatures in Lachung during summer are moderate, not too hot at this altitude. They range from 10°C - 28°C. Rhododendrons are in full bloom during this season and also most fruit orchards bear ripe fruits. It’s a good time to visit because the State Tourism Department organises a number of festivals and events around the blooming of Rhododendron flowers. The valley is suddenly transformed from a white sheet to sprouts of whites, purple, yellows and greens. The beginning of summer is ideally the best season to visit Lachung.
