Known as the Land of Black Magic, Mayong or Mayang is a small village in Assam’s Morigaon District, by the banks of River Brahmaputra, located just 40km from Guwahati. Tourism’s ripe in Mayong owing to its repute of being the hub of the craft of black magic in India. This mysterious hamlet gained popularity after a documentary that was made by Utpal Borpujari gained the media’s attention. This documentary is all about the lives of the people of Mayong and their black magic art. One of the best ways of reaching Mayong is to take a cab or rent a motorbike from Guwahati. Alternatively, you can also take a train to Jagi Railway Station/Barahu Train Station, which are the closest to Mayong.
The nearest airport to Mayong is Guwahati International Airport, which is roughly 61km away from the village. With some of the major Indian metros well connected to Guwahati well via flight/train travel, one of the best ways to reach here would be to take a flight to Guwahati and then make the onward journey by road to Mayong.
