How To Reach Ibiza

Planning A Trip To Ibiza? Here are some guidelines on how to reach Ibiza

An otherwise sleepy town, the island city of Ibiza is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and sees a whopping 7 million yearly tourists landing on its shores. Being an island, it is not reachable via road or rail. The best way to reach is by air and Ibiza Airport is the main transit point for most tourists as it is only located 20 minutes outside of the main city and offers connecting taxi and bus services. The best and only other alternative is to travel via boat. This is possible primarily during the summer months when the Mediterranean waters are relatively calm. The port of Ibiza and San Antonio are the major points for travel by sea. Getting around the city locally is easy as there a number of private and public transportation service options, including hiring a Segway or even a motorbike to explore.

The Ibiza Airport is located approximately 6 km (20 to 30 minutes) away from the main town area and is reachable via airport busses and taxis available in abundance. The airport has daily flights from majority of the major cities in and around Europe. Additionally, the airport attracts several charter flights as well. For Indian travellers, after getting a Schengen Visa, they would be required to fly out to one of the major European cities like Barcelona that are close by and then catch either a connecting flight or boat to get to the island of Ibiza.

Being an island city there are no roadways connecting Ibiza to the rest of Spain or other parts of Europe. However, on arrival visitors will have several bus and taxi options from any of the major ports and the Ibiza Airport to get in and around the city. Majority of the hotels and luxury properties here tend to organize private transportation for the guests. Alternatively, there are motorbike rental services here which make for a fun way to travel around the city.

Since there are no direct train services to Ibiza, another one of the best ways to reach Ibiza is via the Mediterranean Sea. There is a Trans-Mediterranean cruise service from Barcelona to Ibiza that is an extremely popular and efficient alternative to air travel. This service is available 4 times a week at different timings and costs. Tickets can be purchased in person or preferably online. Additionally, Valencia and the port of Denia also offer a boat service to Ibiza. The 3 key ports of Ibiza include Ibiza, Santa Eularia and San Antonio. However, it is important to note that the waterways can only be used in the summer months of April to September.
