Umiam Lake is a vast man-made lake plant surrounded by jungles and the East Khasi hills. It is a must to visit this place in Shillong. Known popularly as Badapani, it has a few small islands, and it borders Lum Nehru Park. The lake is ideal for picnic and for those quiet aimless walks that leave you refreshed.

To capture Shillong in one view, Shillong Peak is the place. The Shillong Peak, located at 6449 feet is usually surrounded by fog. You get a view of all the sides including stunning views of waterfalls, Shillong city, hills far away and also the plains of Bangladesh. The peak is ideal for all. It is one of the best tourist attractions in Shillong.

Elephant Falls, considered to be one of the most picturesque places to visit in Shillong, is a three-tier spectacular beauty, a sight to behold. The falls got the name from a huge rock bordering the falls which resembled an elephant. The rock is no more visible as it was wiped out in an earthquake, but the beauty of the area is still unrivalled. 

Located atop the Khasi Hills is a beautiful formation called the Laitlum Canyons. It is great for trekking and nature lovers. The Laitum Canyons meaning ‘end of the hills,’ gives you an opportunity to view far away hills, valleys and zigzag hilly roads.

With its beauty and tranquil atmosphere, they are one of the must-visit places in Shillong.

With high arches and stained glass windows, Mary Help for Christian Cathedral is one of the most famous churches in Shillong. The church in white marble along with Mother Mary statue is glorious and exquisite. It is one of the moat prominent tourist places here.

The cathedral has some delicate terracotta stations showcasing the life events of Jesus. On top of the hill, you can also visit the Grotto Church carved out of the same hill and right below the Cathedral. On a clear day, you can view the Brahmaputra river and Himalayan peaks. 

Located in the heart of Shillong, you cannot miss Ward’s Lake. With cobblestone walkway around the lake, it is just right for a stroll and relaxing evening. You can also watch dancing fountain shows here. It is ideal for picnics. The wooden bridge on the lake and lotus beds on either side makes the visit worthwhile. 

The museum has 7 floors with artefacts from 8 northeastern states displayed under one roof. It is quite an attraction for tourists and a learning experience to one and all. Located at the hill of Mawlai in Shillong you can view Shillong city from the top.

The park is named after the first lady of the province - Lady Hydari. The park includes a well-planned garden inclusive of eye-catching rose beds and kids play area. There is also a mini zoo inside the park, consisting of 73 species of birds and 100 species of reptiles.

You can get glimpses of Indo-China war and Indo-Pak war. You get a display of defense history, and our flying warriors of the ‘Air Force’. There is a wide range of rockets, missiles, miniature of fighter planes, badges, awards and rank medals.

All Saints Cathedral is considered to be one of the oldest churches in Shillong. The church reflects old colonial style architecture with wooden roofs. The structures inside the Cathedral add to the grandeur. You can plan a day for Lady Hydari Park, State Museum and Butterfly Museum as they are located near the Cathedral.
