Uttarakhand has the two nearest domestic airports situated in Dehradun (Jolly Grant Airport) and Pantnagar Airport, close to Nainital. Flight frequencies are high for Dehradun from the other main Indian capitals, whereas Pantnagar Airport’s flight frequency is restricted. Visitors are recommended to check their flight schedules before travelling. This is one of the most efficient ways to reach Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand enjoys an extremely well-connected network of roadways, making it arguably the best way to travel through the state. Delhi and other major Indian cities in and around the area can easily be reached. Further, the highways are connected to most of the famous tourist spots, national parks and religious destinations in the area. There are daily bus and taxi services from all major airports and train stations in the state to cities and towns in the state.

The inter-state railway networks are also relatively well connected to most of the cities and towns in the area. The Uttarakhand Railway Department is upholding nearly 16 different stations to help connect Uttarakhand with the other significant Indian cities. There are multiple private and local bus and taxi options from these stations.

Local transportation is prevalent in the form of state and private busses and taxis. The local roadways are well-connected, enabling visitors to get from one town to another relatively easily. The frequency of local busses is high and they are easily available. Uttarakhand is also a major pilgrimage spot, hence during season, pilgrims can be observed traversing the state on foot. Motorcycles and driving around the state are also common.
