Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve known widely as one of the foremost Project Tiger Reserves of India, is located in the district of Chandrapur. The Reserve is about 150 km from the city of Nagpur that has easily access to the other cities of Maharashtra as well as to the rest of the country. 

 

Tadoba Tiger Reserve is nestled against the Chimur Hills and the Mohurli and Kolsa ranges. Little towns like Chimur and Chandrapur lie close by and bear access to the Reserve that is otherwise made up of a rugged wilderness with densely forested hills, marshlands and lakes and rivers like the Andhari River, Tadoba Lake, Eraoi Dam and Kolsa Lake.

The nearest airport is Dr. Babasaheb International Airport, located in Nagpur at about 140 km from Tadoba Tiger Reserve. Domestic airlines fly services to Nagpur from Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Raipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Delhi and Kolkata and international flights to Doha. You could hire a cab from the airport to Tadoba Tiger Reserve.

 

If you are flying international, you could book a flight to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati International Airport that flies both domestic flights to most cities across the country and international flights to Singapore, Kuala Lampur, Dubai, Bangkok, Zurich and Hong Kong. From Mumbai you could book a flight ticket to Nagpur and reach your destination by road with taxis or share taxis parked near the Nagpur airport.

The nearest railway station is the Chandrapur Railway Station that lies on the New Delhi-Chennai line and serves a number of daily, bi-weekly and weekly trains to most cities like Chennai, Jodhpur, Vijayawada, Bhopal, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram. There is a good choice of trains to choose from like the Kerala Express and Shraddha Sethu Express. From Chandrapur railway station you could hop onto a bus or hire a cab to take you to the Tadoba Tiger Reserve.

 

The other option would be to travel by trains like Duronto Express or Vidharbha Express to Nagpur and hit the road to Tadoba Tiger Reserve.

Tadoba Tiger Reserve has good access by road and many tourists prefer driving to Tadoba during the weekends from cities like Nagpur or even Hyderabad. The towns nearest to Tadoba Tiger Reserve are Chandrapur at about 40 km and Chimur at about 31 km. From Chandrapur you could take a local bus to drop you off at the Moharli Gate or hire a cab to the Reserve.

 

Chandrapur is a significant little town and has sufficient bus facilities from cities like Nagpur, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Chennai and Hyderabad. There are regular buses as well as Volvo A/C, semi sleepers as well as A/C and non A/C sleeper buses.

Private vehicles do not generally drive inside the Tiger Reserve. There are six gates that lead to the Reserve and mini buses as well as open Gypsy cars for tiger safaris are parked near the gates. Tourists are taken around the Reserve on time scheduled safaris twice a day in an open Gypsy or the more economical 22 seater mini buses.

 

The mini buses and Gypsy come along with a professional guide and you could fix up a vehicle for a safari ride through the Reserve. Safari tours can also be booked online on the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation websites.
