The Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar is the only international airport in Orissa, and at a distance of almost 285 km away, it is the only means of reaching Sambalpur if you are travelling from overseas. While the domestic terminal of the airport in Bhubaneswar can be used for journeying in from within the country or state, the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda district of Orissa is the nearest domestic airport from Sambalpur.
