During summers, the maximum temperature can occasionally rise up to levels of 45ᴼC, with minimum temperatures recorded around an average of 20ᴼC. The Chilika Lake region also receives a good amount of rainfall during the late summer months when the South West Monsoon arrives in the month of July. The annual rain averages around 135 cm with winds flowing in from the sea, which considerably reduces the heat from the summer months. While it is not one of the ideal times to visit Chilika Lake, people looking for a short break can still plan a trip to this region from cities nearby during this time.
