Summer (April to May)

Summers in Guwhati are hot and humid with temperatures ranging between 30°C-40°C. While mornings are sultry, summer evenings in the city are quite pleasant. The major attraction during these months is the Rongali or Bohag Bihu that is celebrated in April. Bihu is the major festival observed and celebrated in Assam and Bohag Bihu is one of the three that is held every year. It is preferable however not to make travel plans during summer as it would be difficult to explore the city under the scorching sun.
Monsoon (June to September)

Guwahati experiences moderate to heavy rainfall. There isn’t much to do during these months as there are water loggings in several places and forest safaris too remain closed. You can, however, enjoy the natural scenic beauty in the rains.
Winter (October to March)

This is undoubtedly the best time to visit and explore Guwahati. Winters are chilly with the minimum temperatures hovering around 5°C. Forest safaris remain open during these months. This period also experiences two Bihu festivals; the Kongali or Kati Bihu in October and Bhogali or Magh Bihu in January. These festivals offer an insight into the culture and life of the Assamese people as they indulge in revelry and merrymaking.
