        Gaya is a very old city. Its history dates back to the 6th Century BC during the time of Buddha’s enlightenment at Bodh Gaya which is about 16km away from Gaya. The best way to reach Gaya is of course to fly to its international airport. However, Gaya has good rail connectivity as well so one can also catch a train to Gaya.         The roads leading to Gaya from other places are not everywhere in a good shape. As recent as January 2019 the road between Gaya and Patna was in a mess. It is therefore a good idea to check out the condition of your roads before setting off on a journey by road to Gaya. However, the distance between Delhi to Gaya is a little less than 1000km and it will take around 14 hours to cover this distance. The input says that almost all travellers prefer to travel by taxi. The cost factor may be an issue when comparing road travel with air travel.

        Gaya has excellent rail connectivity with the rest of the country. For instance, there are 22 long distance trains that run between Gaya and Delhi. There are two trains between Mumbai and Gaya and the distance of 1690km is covered in about 29 hours by the Kolkata Mail. If you are travelling from Kolkata to Gaya by train it will take you 6hr to cover the 464km distance if you commute by the Rajdhani.

        The airport in Gaya is known as Bodhgaya Airport. It is an international airport which is 12km away from Gaya and there are flights here from Thailand and Myanmar as well as Bhutan and Vietnam, besides a few cities of Japan and Sri Lanka. There are several domestic flights too from Terminal 1 for most of the major cities of India.

        You will not have a problem in commuting in Gaya. There are auto rickshaws and taxis for hire that will take you around the various sites. The bus service is not very regular and therefore it would be appropriate to hire auto rickshaws or taxis.
