7500 feet above sea-level, nestled amongst fruit orchards and the gorgeous Himalayan Mountains, Mukteshwar is a charmign hill-station found in the Nainital distrcit of Uttarakhand. The town enjoys fantastic weather throughout the year, but it is in the summer (March - June) when the tourism in Mukteshwar really booms. Hiking, camping and a variety of other outdoor activities are all possible during this period. The town is also home to the famous Mukteshwar Dham, a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, nearly 350 years old.

By Air:

Pantnagar Airport is the neighbouring airport to Mukteshwar (96 km). There are several prepaid taxis and busses on offer from the airport to Mukteshwar and back.

 

By Road:

An extremely efficient and well-connected roadway network makes this the best way to reach Mukteshwar. There is a high frequency of state and private-owned vehicles on offer if visitors do not wish to drive down themselves.

 

By Rail:

Kathgodam station is adjoining to Mukteshwar, only 62 km away. There is a high frequency of taxis and busses available for visitors from this station to Mukteshwar.

Summer (March – June):

Summers in Mukteshwar are characterised by clear skies and a cool evening breeze, making it the best time to visit the hill station. With an average weather of 20° to 27°C during this season, it is perfect for outdoor activities.

 

Monsoon (July – September):

The rainfall received in the monsoon borders low to moderate. The weather is decent enough for visitors to travel here and the surrounding vegetation blossoms throughout this period.

Trekking and Camping:

Restaurants and food options in Mukteshwar are quite limited. There are some local dhabas and hotels serving a variety of different cuisines. However, the local Kumaoni and North Indian cuisine is not to be missed. The local delicacies include dishes like Bhang ki Khatai (curry dish), Aloo ke Gutke and various dal preparations that are extremely popular with visitors.

Other than the famous Kilmora Shop, there are no supermarkets or shopping malls in the area. Visitors are however recommended to stop by the Kilmora handicrafts store to pick up a souvenir if possible. The shop houses some of the most intricate and unqiue Kumaoni designs including scarves, jackets, socks and other clothing items. Other products on sale include handmade jewellery and artefacts.
