By Air:
The closest airport from Mirik is in Bagdogra, Siliguri about 47 km away. Bagdogra is the only and the most important airport connecting the entire region with the rest of the state and the country by air. There are regular flights operating between Bagdogra and Kolkata and other important cities. From airports, prepaid taxis are available that will transfer tourists to Mirik.
By Rail:
NJP or the New Jalpaiguri Junction is the most important railway junction in the entire zone enjoying great connectivity with other parts of the state. People travelling to NJP can take connecting trains from Kolkata or Sealdah. From the station prepaid taxis can be booked to reach Mirik.
By Road:
Mirik has well developed network of roads that connect it with adjacent places like Darjeeling, Siliguri, NJP etc. Buses, mini coaches, private cars and taxis regularly play between these areas. Those travelling to Mirik ned not worry about transportation.
Getting Around:

Summer (March to June):
The unique geographical location of Mirik has bestowed it with favourable and pleasant climate conditions. During the summer months when the other parts of West Bengal are experiencing scorching heat, temperatures in Mirik never cross the 30°C mark. The clear skies allow a magnificent view of the Himalayan ranges. Post sunset temperatures dip and some light woollens are recommended. It is a great time for exploring Mirik.
Monsoon (July to October):
Monsoon season in Mirik experiences heavy downpour and this continues till October. The torrential rains are often accompanied by landslides that could prove quite dangerous. Roads are blocked; travel plans go for a toss and sometimes it could also pose a threat to life and property. The rains also hamper sightseeing in Mirik hence it is not considered an ideal time for visiting the area.
Winter (November to February):
Mirik experiences a chilly winter with temperatures ranging between 1°C and 15°C. There are frequent snowfalls as well which can be exciting for the tourists. Winter turns the entire place mystical and magical. Campfire, steaming hot thukpa and the company of loved ones is the ideal way of spending winter in Mirik. Lazing Around and Boating in Sumedu Lake:
Sumedu Lake, also referred to as Mirik Lake is the chief attraction in Mirik drawing large number of tourists every year. Situated in a beautiful locale, a trip to the lake is rejuvenating. One can go boating in the calm waters of the lake, take a leisurely stroll along the banks of the lake or take a pony ride. It is a great activity for the kids. The greenery and the clear blue skies are truly intoxicating.
Walk through Tea Estates:
Mirik has beautiful tea gardens like most of the places in the places of North Bengal. These sprawling green luscious beauties are a treat for the eyes. You can go for a walk through these gardens, take beautiful snaps, watch the tea workers picking leaves etc.

One doesn’t visit Mirik for shopping and it isn’t known for it as well. There are however a number of shops in Krishnanagar area and in Mirik Bazaar. Here you will find beautiful handcrafted items and Tibetan designed potteries that are very famous and beautiful. Pick up a product or two and before heading back make sure to purchase some famous Darjeeling tea for yourself and for gifting purpose.
