Joshimath is a hidden gem, approximately 6000 feet above sea-level. It serves as the winter home to the priests and shrine of Badrinath. This quiant town is situated amidst immense natural beauty and is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas on all sides. The town also acts a base point for treks to the Valley Of Flowers as well as Hemkund Sahib. It is best visited any time between April to November, but can be visited during the summer and winter months. The town has a strong spiritual significance in the Hindu religion but is also a great place to indulge in some outdoor adventure sports like camping, trekking and even skiing. By Air:

Having no domestic airport of its own, Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is closest to Joshimath, 272 km away. There are multiple bus and taxi options for visitors to get to and from Joshimath. 

 

By Road:

This is the best way to reach Joshimath, due to the well-connected roadway network present in and around the area. The drive down from Delhi is long but very scenic and is not to be missed.

 

By Rail:

Rishikesh Railway Station is closest to Joshimath, approximately 250 km away. The train networks are easily connected to most of the significant cities in and around Uttarakhand

Summer (April - June):

This is the most ideal time to visit Joshimath. The weather is warm throughout the day and visitors can enjoy clear skies with high visibility. This is perfect weather for outdoor activities. 

 

Monsoon (July - September):

Although the surrounding landscape becomes lush in this season, Joshimath is prone to flooding and landslides. Hence, caution is advised when travelling during this period. 

 

Winter (December - February):

The weather in this season can drop down to freezing levels. However, if visitors are well-clad they can truly enjoy the beauty of Joshimath in the snow.

Kuari Pass Trek:

Visitors will travel through hot springs, hillocks and a variety of other natural wonders on this journey. This trek is perfect for moderately experienced trekkers.
